Kenyan man gets 10 years in jail for claiming to be Al Shabaab

A man has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment by a Narok court for giving false information to the police.

The court heard that Isaac Lekishon Taruru claimed he had been recruited by Al Shabaab at Olposumoru area.

Before Narok Senior Resident Magistrate Allan Sitati he reportedly said he was taken to Mombasa and given the name Mohammed by the terror group.

He also said there are other recruits in Narok town whom he is ready to identify. But after thorough scrutiny by anti-terror police in Nairobi, Mr Taruru denied the earlier sentiments.

A report by Mathare Mental Hospital indicated Taruru is mentally fit. He has 14 days to appeal the ruling.
