KENYA: Kisii University management has dismissed the Commission for University Education (CUE)'s report that has ordered the closure of 10 of its satellite campuses across the country.

The university also said the commission had not officially communicated its decision.
In the CUE report, 10 campuses of the university fell below the expected threshold and have been identified for closure in the next 90 days.

The campuses according to CUE are in Kabarnet, Migori, Ogembo, Keroka, Nyamira, Isebania, Kehancha, Eldoret, Eldama Ravine and Kapenguria.

Speaking to the media yesterday, the university's deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Maurice Amutabi, said they had not received any communication from CUE on the closure.
"The process to close any university campus is complex and must involve all stakeholders. We have followed all procedures in opening these campuses. We are hearing this for the first time," said Prof Amutabi.

He added: "All campuses are established in line with the recommendations of the University Senate and in accordance with the University's Act 2012."

Meanwhile, Uasin Gishu Senator Isaac Melly told students that their institution would remain open. "Nobody will close an institution serving over 5,000 students from the locality for malicious reasons," he said.
