What I plan to do during the Christmas and New Year festivities

Anthony Wachira, a 15 year old high school student says he will spend time with his family.  "Christmas is a time for family so I have not made any plans with my friends but I will most likely go out with friends to a few parties over the New Year period," he said.

He reveals that his parents have no problem with him going out though he is expected back home by a certain time. And that is something he respects, he says.

Deborah Chemos a 16 year old student who is joining Form Four next year told The Standard that she will celebrate Christmas with her family, but spend the rest of the festive season studying.
"I used to visit relatives during Christmas in the past, but this time I will be with my parents. I am a candidate next year and I have decided to spend most of the time during this holiday to study," said Chemoss.

For Sam Kemei,19, who recently cleared Form Four, he will spend the festive season with his grandparents in their rural home in Saboti Constituency, Trans-Nzoia County.
" Having stayed and studied in Nairobi my entire life, my parents decided that I should have time with my grandparents and other relatives. I will be back to the city in January," he said.

But for those who will want to spend some time away with their friends there are many entertainment spots beckoning in Nairobi and other towns. Most of these clubs, The Standard established attract youthful clientele including university and college students because of the pocket friendly prices of the different alcoholic drinks sold in the establishment and their strategic locations.

With the recent disturbing cases of minors rounded up in entertainment joints, some club owners have come up with stringent requirements barring teenagers who have not attained the legal age of 18 from patronising their premises. Club Rumours on Moi Avenue is a perfect example. The minimum age limit required for young people to access the joint is 23 years. Anyone suspected to fall the age limit is politely asked to produce their national identification card.

"Anybody below 23 years is not allowed at allowed at Club Rumours. I personally conduct spot-checks and make sure the age-limit requirement is met," said the club's director who only identified himself as Mr Kimani. He appealed to owners of clubs in the city to personally ensure the age-limit is adhered it to by those they employ to run their businesses.

Other entertainment joints in the city where teenagers may hang out during this festive season include Sky World Lounge and Sevens Lounge both on Tom Mboya Street.

Club Betty's, I-Club, Gravity Lounge all on Kimathi Street and Tribeka that is along Banda Street at the Central Business District (CBD), are some of the spots that attract a large number of youthful revellers who are keen to while away time and catch up. Club 1824 and 411 in Lang'ata and Kitengela respectively are some of Outside the CBD, clubs where teenagers flock to for entertainment.
