Christmas Day celebration marks a high point of every year in many countries. The anticipation and excitement of Christmas is electrifying for many people, and nobody wants to be left out.

Churches prepare elaborate Christmas programmes that illustrate the birth of Jesus Christ. Families and friends come together for celebration.

The story of the birth of Jesus, only shows us that he came to this world as a humble, poor person. The news of Jesus’ birth was first announced to shepherds who at that time were viewed as low-class people. Afterwards, wise men came to see Jesus and offered gifts.

We can therefore conclude that the Christmas is a time to think of others and share gifts with them.

This Christmas period, let us be happy and help the needy. Do not only celebrate with your family but take your time to visit orphans, widows, and the less fortunate during this period. Take that responsibility of putting a smile on their faces.

Make everyone feel loved through sharing whatever small gift you have with them. Not only the gifts but also your presence and the little things you do will motivate and make them feel part of a society that has for long turned its back on the less fortunate.

In the past years, Christmas was a family event. It was a time when family members came together to celebrate and have fun. Families that lived in the cities travelled to villages to celebrate with their grandparents and other relatives. There were so many reasons for families to get together, and there was no better time to be close than the festive season.

At Christmas therefore, there is still the feeling of a great sense of obligation to visit and spend more time around family members.

But if we are going to celebrate Christmas genuinely, then let us only remember that Jesus came for the poor as well. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
