After months of campaigns, Football Kenya Federation (FKF) elections start tomorrow when delegates from sub-branches cast their votes at various venues.

Candidates for the president’s post were on the final lap of their campaign trail at the weekend hoping to tie up any loose ends.

Incumbent Sam Nyamweya took his crusade to Eldoret, while Nick Mwendwa who is Nyamweya’s main challenger, was in Mombasa where he persuaded delegates.

It is widely believed that the out-come of the sub-branch elections will have a great bearing on who will eventually become the new FKF president, hence the final push by contenders.

More than 900 candidates will vie for the 170 available posts. Being the lowest administrative unit of FKF, clubs will vote at this level. Successful candidates at sub-branches will then vote for branch officials, who will form quorum to elect national officials on December 14.

Elsewhere, there will be no election in Upper Eastern next Monday due to lack of opponents.

Hussein Dima Mahad therefore, becomes the new boss after former chairman Nabea Muriithi opted to vie for the executive committee post for Eastern. Also going in unopposed as the secretary is Kirimi Riungu.

The new vice chairman is Robert Kiremu. Other official are, Getito Nderito Gethu (Assistant Secretary), Ali Awadh Abdalla (Treasurer), John Ntongai Michael (Assistant Treasurer), Grace Wamuyu Gathua (Women Represetative) and Jabir Hassan Mohamud (Youth Representative).

In Nyanza West, Tom Bwana and Joan Akoth Omiti are unopposed for the Vice Chairman and Women representative seats.

In South Rift, Ezekiel Arap Chumo will face his greatest challenge as he defends the Secretary’s position. He faces off with Alfred Kirui. Candidates for the other positions will go in un-opposed.

South Coast branch has attracted the highest number of candidates. A total of 24 candidates will contest for the eight available slots at the branch .The Chairman’s, Secretary and Assistant Secretary’s positions have each attracted four candidates.

Other branches with huge number of competitors are Arbedare (24), Nairobi West (19) and Nyanza North (19). Nairobi East Branch has 17 candidates, same as Western Branches, while North Coast and Lower Eastern each has 15.

A total of 27 candidates will compete for the eight available executive committee positions. Apart from the chairman’s and vice-chairman’s post, the other most prestigious position is a post in the executive committee.

Competition for a position in the executive committee has since hit fever-pitch as six of the eight out-going contenders will defend their seats.

They include; Anjeline Mwikali (Eastern), Elly Mukolwe (Western), Simon Mugo ( Nairobi), Mulla Mohammed ( North Eastern) Mohammed Omar ( Coast) and George Wainaina ( Central ).

In Nairobi, Chris Amimo, Ken Oliech Jacob Kabanze Odundo and Eric Obura will compete with incumbent Simon Mugo. In Mombasa, Mohammed Omar will be challenged by Ricky Solomon and Raphael Mwalungo.
