I couldn’t sleep at all, I kept having flashbacks of the fateful day – DJ Evolve speaks

Felix Orinda, aka DJ Evolve, spoke out for the first time since he was discharged from the hospital after a tragic shooting incident at B-club, Nairobi.

Speaking during an interview aired on NTV on Monday, June 29, the DJ narrated the struggles he has faced in the last six months.

Struggling to speak due to the tube attached to his neck, the 25-year-old DJ says he has not been able to do anything for himself as the incident left him immobile.

DJ Evolve said he couldn't sleep before and kept having flashbacks of the B-club tragedy, adding that the incident left him traumatized.

"I'm Okay generally; I'm doing better as opposed to when it first happened. I was really traumatized at the beginning, but I learnt to live with it.

"At least nowadays I can be able to sleep, but before I couldn't sleep at all, I kept having flashbacks of the fateful day. I needed medication to help me sleep," narrated Mr Orinda.

The DJ, who used his hands as his primary tools of trade, can barely do much with his arms. He says he depends on the people around him for the things he needs.

"I'm slightly able to move my limbs Hands, that's the much I can do, but I can't be able to move my arms. Not really, because these were my tools of trade, so when I don't have them, there is no way I can be able to work.

"But generally, looking at it, it's better because I can move them, but before I couldn't do that," continued DJ Evolve.

DJ Evolve's mother says she had to drop all her activities to be with her son in the hospital since January 17, 2020. She also dismissed reports that she spoke to the media before.

The mother added that her son's bill came to 17 million, although Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, who is accused of shooting the DJ, paid 7 million. She adds that the hospital had an agreement with the MP to have the bill cleared.

When asked whether he forgave the person who shot him, DJ Evolve said he left the matter to God and waits for justice to prevail.

“I left that to God. I am waiting for the justice system to see what will go through,” said DJ Evolve.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Babu Owino was arrested on Friday, January 17, 2020, for allegedly shooting the 25-year-old DJ.

The MP was freed on January 27 after pleading not guilty to charges of attempted murder and carrying a firearm while drunk and disorderly.

The Embakasi East MP was arraigned in court. In his ruling, Milimani Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi directed Babu Owino to deposit Sh10 million cash bail in four equal installments of Sh2.5 million.
