AP OFFICER HAPPY TO PELT OUT RHYMES

A police officer based in Bomet county has said the desire not to let his talent wilt out is what drives him to continue writing and producing R n B songs even as he continues to serve the Government.

Constable Peter Njoroge whose stage name is Cushyn Rhymes discovered his music talent while in form one at Nakuru day secondary school in Nakuru County in 2006.

“I used to rap at school before my school mates and competing with other students made them wonder how a kid from a rural area could give them a run for their creativity. Their awe over my music acumen made me continue with the belief that I could sing.” Mr. Njoroge said.

He added that most of his songs are in English. He formed a competition with his schoolmates where they met on Friday evenings at Nakuru town to show off to each other what they could do.

Among his competitors and friends of the time include an artiste called Easy Black who still plies his trade in Nakuru town at clubs and one of his role models and music colleague.

The 26 year old officer revealed that he seriously started composing and writing songs while in form three and it took him four more years after completing high school that he recorded his first single titled “My Love” in 2012 which he followed a few months later with two more singles “Party” and “Jubilee”. Mr. Njoroge’s songs are produced by Mandugu Digital Productions in Nairobi which he says was his preferred production house for his songs because of its quality despite a fairly high price of cost for producing singles going at Sh 10, 000 each for audio recording only.

“Among the challenges I face as a budding musician is the financial constraint because to produce a single at my current studio is Sh 10, 000 each for an audio single.” He said.

Mr. Njoroge added that other issues he faces include lack of enough time to practice and produce more songs because of his job commitment as a police officer regularly on duty which also leaves him with no opportunity to participate in shows but notes that he writes a lot of songs in the meantime in readiness to produce them later when he gets more time at his disposal.


“I cannot regret though because my work has enabled me to get some money to finance my productions including the release of my first single My Love in video which cost a whooping Sh 150, 000 to produce and you can watch it on you tube.” He revealed.

The constable based at Bomet county AP post is optimistic that one day he would be among the biggest Africa artistes and calls upon upcoming artistes to persevere and put time in nurturing their music talents if they needed to succeed.

Among his biggest role models in the industry are Wyre and Nameless whom he says despite singing secular music they are well behaved.
