Rift Valley regional secondary schools Term One games, which were to begin on Wednesday, have been postponed to Sunday.

The championships, which are set to be held at Kapsabet Boys and Girls High schools, have been put on hold following the death of a student and a teacher in a road accident.

According to Rift Valley region Secondary schools sports Association Secretary Peter Mulambula, they decided to postpone the games until Sunday so as to mourn those who perished in the accident.

"At this time, as investigations continue to established the cause of the accident, and in respect for those involved and the host school, we have decided to postpone the games until Sunday," Mulambula told Standard Sports.

Mulambula added that teams will arrive on Saturday and referees coordination clinic will be held on that day.

The accident claimed the lives of one student and a teacher of Kapsabet Boys High School after the school bus was involved in an accident at Patkawanin area along Karbaret-Marigat Road.

"One teacher and one student were fatally injured, five students were seriously injured while 19 others were slightly injured," a police report read in part.

The bus, which was ferrying 61 students and a teacher, was headed to Marigat on a education tour and upon reaching the location of the accident, the driver lost control and veered off the road.

The three-day games will feature hockey, rugby 15’s, swimming, handball, basketball, athletics and cross country.
