Kenya’s national netball team, the Divas, put up a spirited performance despite falling 41–33 to a formidable Namibian side in their opening match of the inaugural UAE Netball Cup in Dubai, United Arabs Emirates on Sunday.

Under the leadership of captain Parin Simiyu, the Divas had a nervy start, quickly falling behind by seven points within the first five minutes.

Coach Ali Mugisha responded with a tactical switch, bringing on goal shooter Doreen Akinyi to replace Delilah Akinyi.

The change stabilised Kenya’s attack, though Namibia still edged the first quarter 11–8.

Namibia, ranked higher globally, maintained their momentum to lead 21–13 at halftime.

They extended their advantage to 33–22 by the end of the third quarter, but the Divas fought hard in the final stretch, cutting into the disadvantage to finish with a 41–33 scoreline.

Kenya’s shooting duo delivered standout performances. Goal attacker Hellen Subira was flawless, converting all 22 of her attempts for a 100% shooting rate. Doreen Akinyi also impressed, netting 11 of 14 shots for a 79% success rate.
