After twists and turns that have seen the fall of giants and rise of new champions in the ongoing Term Two games across the country, more nondescript schools have promised to shock top guns when the Rift Valley regional games begin Friday at Nakuru High School.
Little-known schools outshone perennial giants at various county games last weekend. Maseno School fell in basketball in Kisumu, Dagoretti were shocked in football in Nairobi finals, while Kakamega High School lost in both rugby and football, in Kakamega.
In Nakuru, all eyes will be on the newly crowned basketball champions Stafford Boys, who dethroned giants Menengai and Rongai Boys on their way to the regional championships.
"We are ready to conquer the mighty this time on our way to the national championships and possibly, East Africa school games," said Stafford Boys Games director Gidraph Mwangi.
On their way to the regional championships, Strafford defeated Naivasha Mixed 48-32 in Nakuru County basketball finals last weekend.
Mwangi said their aim is to become the next champions at the national and regional levels with an aim of surpassing the achievement of former giants as they produce talented sports personalities in different disciplines.
Rift Valley Secondary Schools Sports Association (RVSSSA) Secretary General Kirwa Koech said the draws for all disciplines will be ready on Wednesday.
"Due to factors that affected our planning, we are unable to release draws for all disciplines today (yesterday) but we expect to have them after a formal meeting tomorrow [Friday]," Kirwa said
Meanwhile, former National Sevens champions Menengai are back in the regional championships.
Head coach Evans Adenya said his boys are ready to reclaim their lost glory both at the regional and national levels.
