Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed today visited the family of the late athlete Agnes Tirop in Kapnyamisa, Nandi County.

Amina who was accompanied by Athletics Kenya President Jackson Tuwei consoled the slain athlete’s family and said her death did not only shock Kenya, but the world.

The CS confessed that women athletes face what she termed as monumental challenges in their careers.

She said Tirop was killed at a time when the ministry of sports was establishing an athletes’ welfare taskforce, which will look into ways of addressing problems that sportsmen and women face in their social life.

“It is hard for me, all her friends and the entire world to believe that Agnes Tirop is no more. It is even painful that she was (allegedly) killed by someone said to be her lover,” Amina told mourners at the home of the late athlete’s parents.

The late Tirop will be laid to rest at her parent’s farm on Saturday.
