Duncan takes lead in KCB Mobi Bank Nyeri Rally

Six times Kenyan Rally Champion emerges winner of day one in KCB Mobi Bank Nyeri event

Ian Duncan navigated by Amaar Slatch in a Mitsubishi Lancer EVO9 has taken the overnight lead in the KCB Mobi Bank Nyeri Rally following the opening two competitive stages held in Nyeri and its environs yesterday.

Duncan drove back to the Green Hills Hotel Parc Ferme ecstatic of his Day one exploits.

He clocked 10.52 minutes to cling to the summit of the first day’s showdown with zest and vigour.

The 2008 KNRC Champion and 2013 KNRC series leader Baldev Chager is lying second overall after trailing the leader by a 16 seconds margin.

Chager, who won the Kajiado Rally in late January in a Subaru N16, hopes to uphold his lead in the national series by setting some of the top stage times.

Chager was impressive on his very first outing in his new Mitsubishi Lancer EVOX.

Alastair Cavenagh brought back his EVO9 car in third place after clocking 11.10 minutes. This was Cavenagh’s first event in the 2013 season. The two times champion has challenged the younger drivers start upping their game and set fastest stage times to challenge for both stage and rally victories.

Jassi Chatthe from Kisumu was happy with fourth overall place.

Organisers Rallye Sports Club (RSC) cancelled the 28km CS2 Naromoru -Solio stage reducing Day one’s competitive mileage to 17.2km.

Clerk of the course James Burke said the stage was cancelled due to safety concerns.

Nyeri was a beehive of activities with 5000 spectators turning out at the Kabiru-ini ASK showground to catch a glimpse of hair-raising thrills.

The rally was flagged off by Nyeri County’s deputy governor Samuel Githaiga outside KCB Branch in Nyeri.
