Kenya picks team for 2021 virtual world event

Kenya has entered 12 athletes for this year’s virtual Chungju World Martial Arts Mastership.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, countries that had registered by August 20, 2021 will be allowed to submit their recorded videos as per the specifications by the World Tong Il Moo Do Federation. 

Kenya Tong Il Moo Do Federation Secretary General Hilary Wahanda said Kenya submitted their recorded videos yesterday for the judging process that is scheduled for October 1.

“Those who will qualify from the first judging exercise will advance to the second and final stage before the announcement of the overall winners,” said Wahanda. 

He added that Kenya has entered six men and six women in the virtual championships that were last staged in 2019 in Chungju, where Kenya finished second after winning nine medals; two gold, two silver and five bronze medals. 

At this year’s championships, Kenya has entered athletes in different categories including Team Forms, Individual Forms, One Step Sparring and Creative Forms backed by background music.

“The team has been in training at the Kenya Tong-Il Moo-Do headquarters in Mombasa under national coach Ibrahim Mchumba. 

Wahanda said the federation has lined up a series of seminars and training sessions focusing on involvement of more women athletes.
