Donald Trump banner flown over Goodison Park moments before Everton vs Man United

A bizarre banner claiming that the 'world knows' Donald Trump won the US election was flown over Goodison Park before Saturday's clash between Everton and Manchester United.

The plane carrying the banner could be seen in the Merseyside skies as the players warmed up before the lunchtime kick-off, with the banner carrying the words ''World Knows Trump Won' along with the familiar #MAGA hashtag used by Trump supporters.

In reality Republican Trump is set to be the loser of the election, with Democrat Joe Biden due to be confirmed as the new president in the coming days.

With mail-in ballots still being counted in a handful of states, Biden's lead is widening as he closes in on the White House.

Biden just needs to clinch the 20 electoral college votes that are on offer in Pennsylvania to secure victory, with reports claiming he is currently around 28,000 ballots ahead of rival Trump in the state.

The former vice-president also leads in Georgia, Nevada and Arizona amid what has been a record turn out in the US.

With Trump on the verge of losing the election, the president appeared at a media conference on Thursday in which he made a series of baseless claims about certain votes being illegal.

Biden hasn't yet claimed victory, only saying: "The numbers tell us a clear and convincing story - we're going to win this race".

Everton and United take each other on at Goodison amid mounting pressure on United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, with many claiming a defeat could lead to him losing his job
