Kenyatta University (KU) won 99 medals to win seventh KUSA games title. [Standard]

Kenyatta University (KU) won 99 medals to win seventh Kenya Universities Sports Association (KUSA) games title at University of Eldoret on Sunday.

KU bagged 39 gold, 29 silver and 31 bronze to emerge top among the 18 universities that competed in the run up to next year’s national play offs.

United States International University (USIU) came second with 23 gold, 20 silver and 14 bronze ahead of Mount Kenya University (MKU) to seal the podium places with 18 gold, 22 silver and 22 bronze.

In football, Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) won the women's football title while Strathmore University wore the women's crown. The two sides beat KU teams.

MMUST soaked KU in a 3-0 win in the final. Christabel Keya broke the deadlock in the 34th minute for MMUST after connecting Mirriam Chelagat's cross before Chelagat, who capitalized on KU defence blunder, scored the second goal in the 42nd minute for a 2-0 lead at the break.

KU resumed the second half with renewed determination and mounted a wave of attacks but the  MMUST defence remained tight.

Ruth Chebungei scored the winning goal in the 77th minute to seal a spot in the Kusa play offs set for Nairobi conference in February.

In men's football, Strathmore beat KU 6-5 in penalty shoot outs after a 1-1 draw in regular time.
Henry Wafula opened the score sheet for Strathmore in the 51st minute but the celebrations was cut short after Castro Okendo leveled terms ten minutes later for the match to end 1-1.

Strathmore converted their spot kicks through Eugene Owino, Felix Anani, Henry Wafula, Trevor Odhiambo and Barack Dago while KU's Brian Ogutu hit the post in the third penalty. KU scored through Mark Okoth, Brian Okeyo, Steve Obukuyi and Bill Clinton.

In volleyball, Strathmore and KU retained men's and women's titles respectively. Strathmore defeated KU 3-1 to lift the men's trophy in straight sets (25-22, 20-25, 26-26 and 25-13).

It took 153 minutes for KU to defeat Strathmore and retain the title. They edged out Strathmore in 3-2 sets (25-20, 27-25, 19-25, 21-25 and 16-18). In men's handball, KU beat Strathmore 29-20.
