Francis Onyiso and Nick Abaka have been honoured for their achievement in sports.
Onyiso is currently part of the Ulinzi Stars technical bench after hanging his gloves for both the club and Harambee Stars goalkeeper while Abaka is a renowned boxer with Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) team.
The two sportsmen were recognised by Defence Cabinet Secretary Raychelle Omamo and Chief of Defence Forces Samson Mwathethe on Monday during the 2019 KDF Day at Lang’ata Barracks.
KDF Day is a special day that has been observed since October 2012 following the launch of Operation Linda Nchi in October 2011.
It is now observed annually to commemorate and celebrate the heroes and heroines at KDF.
This year’s theme is ‘Towards Sustainable Welfare for the Kenya Defence Forces Fraternity Welfare.’
“Sergeant Onyiso is being recognised for his sporting prowess and his contribution to the growth of football as a sport within KDF and nationally, where he has participated in numerous winning matches both as a player for Ulinzi Football Club and the national team Harambee Stars,” the honour sheet read.
They lauded Sergeant Abaka as one of the most accomplished boxers in the country.
Abaka has been the national team captain for over 10 years.
He has recorded 420 wins in over 480 fights, both nationally and internationally.
