Kenya Morans will be looking to write history when they lock horns with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in the final of the FIBA AfroCan basketball tournament in Bamako, Mali today.

It will be payback time as Kenyans seek to avenge the opening day loss to the Congolese. The Kenyans fell 65-82 to DRC but bounced back to reach today’s final.

Morans' coach Cliff Owuor exuded confidence saying, unlike the first match where they were uncertain of what to expect they have gained more confidence and they were ready for the final test.

“Uncertainty was our major undoing in our opening match. DRC is among countries with tall and well-built players and it was a challenge playing them for the first time. Even so, we have gained more confidence and we are ready to meet them again,” Owuor said.

“The mood has changed, the attitude is positive and we all believe that we can do it because we have a strong mentality to win. Beating DRC and bringing the trophy home is our only goal going into the decisive tie.”

In the semis, Kenya dominated the North Africans from the onset taking the first quarter 27-11.

Ulinzi Warriors shooting guard Erick Mutoro was on fire calling the shots as the Moroccans struggled to keep pace. The Kenyans had one foot into the final after taking a 50-26 half time lead.

On resumption, Morans showed their hunger for victory scoring 27 points against Morocco’s 20 in the third quarter.

Morocco took the fourth quarter 20-19 but it was not good enough to stop the Kenyans from chalking an emphatic 96-66 victory.

Mutoro top-scored for Kenya with 32 points with Tyler Okari adding 22 while Sami Al Uariachi was Morocco’s top scorer with 20 points. DRC beat Morocco 84-78 to book a second date with Morans.

Meanwhile, Kawhi Leonard and Paul George made their debuts Wednesday as Los Angeles Clippers teammates, vowing to turn their hometown club into an NBA champion and eclipse city rival Lakers, adds AFP reports.

“We’re not looking at the Battle of LA. We’ve got bigger goals in mind,” George said. “We’re not thinking about the Lakers shadow.”
