Former champions Ulinzi Warriors will battle Strathmore University Blades in a Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) men’s premier league match at Nyayo Gymnasium today.

The soldiers, who are seeking to reclaim the league title that has eluded them for many years, will be looking to complete a double against the students whom they beat 71-53 in their first leg.  Warriors will be out to extend their good run which has seen them emerge as the season’s title favourites.

Ulinzi coach William Balozi said they will approach the match with caution. “It is a second leg match and that’s why we need to be cautious because I believe they (Blades) will come well prepared to win. No team wants to lose to the same opponent twice in row and so expect a tough match,” Balozi said.

Balozi will bank on the services of Erick Mutoro and James Mwangi who are fresh from a successful outing with the national team in Kampala, Uganda. The two were part of the triumphant Kenyan squad that won the men’s Fiba Zone Five Afro basketball title last weekend. Warriors will also rely on Victor Bosire and Alvin Nyangweso.

In other premier league ties, red hot Thunder will be out to strike Equity Bank as they seek to avenge their first leg loss. Thunder have also had a superb season and are the only side to have beaten Ulinzi despite going down to the bankers. Eldonets will be in the city in hunt of four points against Umoja and Blades. In Mombasa, defending champions Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) will host World Hope.

In women’s title chase, Storms will tackle Kenyatta University (KU) Oryx in the only women’s premier league match of the day. Storms hope to consolidate their play-offs spot against the students who are also eying a slot in the last eight.

Tomorrow, champions Equity Bank Hawks will play Tangit Sparks who are looking to secure their place in the knockouts. Having survived demotion, Tangit formerly Masaku Sparks began their campaign well but fizzled out towards the end of the first leg and they will be out to revive their hopes of qualifying for play-offs.

University of Nairobi (UON) Dynamites will square it out with KU Oryx tomorrow. Upcoming star Faith Atieno will be keen to show her prowess and lead her side to another victory. Atieno has been instrumental in Dynamites debut season in the top tier as she led them to several wins. Zetech University are keen to beat Eagle Wings.
