Conor McGregor has welcomed reality star Kim Kardashian to his 'family' after a report claimed the pair are related.

It was recently reported that Kardashian is related to Robert Roy MacGregor - better known as Rob Roy - who was a Scottish outlaw in the 1800s.

The Daily Record claimed this means Khardashian is linked to the first King of Scots Kenneth MacAlpin.

The 38-year-old responded by tweeting the story with several crown emojis, indicating she might feel she has a claim for the crown.

And since then, reports have put two and two together to link UFC star McGregor who is not shy about his roots to the clan.

The MacGregors fought against the English in 1547 before Rob Roy rallied the MacGregor clan to fight in Jacobite uprising a century later.

McGregor hails from the Irish branch of the clan and tweeted: "Welcome to the family." as reports of Kardashian's apparent heritage spread on social media.

The Irish star is currently training for his as-yet unannounced return the Octagon having not fought since his defeat by Khabib Nurmagomedov last October.

McGregor failed in his challenge for the lightweight belt when he was submitted in the fourth round in Las Vegas.

A post-fight brawl led to both men being banned before McGregor retired and unretired for the second time in his career.

Nurmagomedov will defend his title against Dustin Poirier on September 7 in Abu Dhabi.

After his next contest was officially confirmed, undefeated Nurmagomedov wrote on Twitter : "Welcome aboard Dastin Poirier."

Poirier, meanwhile, will come into UFC 242 on the back of a five-fight winning streak, his last defeat coming against Michael Johnson during 2016.
