After taking part in the national junior contest at the Annesley Cup Polo Championships last weekend in Gilgil, the team is set for the high handicap Madaraka Day Kessier Cup Championships at Manyatta Polo Club this afternoon.

The team include captain and handicap three Archie Voorspuy, Izzy Parsons (handicap two), Joss Craig (handicap one) and upcoming handicap 0.0 Cheza Millar whose total handicap dropped from eight to six after the exit of Zambia based Tiba Gross.

The four stand at handicap 7.5 in Gold team and will participate in Division One Championships alongside Classic, Signature and Platinum in round robin matches.

They will be up against experienced players in what would give them experience before they depart to Harare on June 7 for the Zimbabwe International Polo Championships that run on June 9-12.

In the first match at 1pm, Classic team of Jammie Murray (5), Stutti Millar (1.5), Geoffrey Morley (1) and Cindy Voorspuy (0.5) takes on Platinum whose team members are Julian Camm (2.5), Gordy Millar (2), Kimoi Moi (2) and Tony Sugden (1) before Signature battle Gold at 2pm.

Signature team members include Casimir gross (4.5), Pete Griffiths (1.5), Nick Millar (0.5) and Gideon Moi (1).

In Kessier Cup Division Two Championships, JW Seagon takes on Hygrotech at 3 pm before Tack Rack meet Barclays Abysa at 4 pm.

“We are ready for competition in Harare and it was the reason we had to involve the team in last weekend’s Annesley Cup and this weekend’s tournament for them to gain fitness," head coach Jonathan Stichbury said.

At least 48 players will be divided into 12 teams in senior and junior championships in the round robin matches.

Kenya Polo Association chairman Gordy Millar said a tough battle awaits in the three days of competition.
