Former East Africa boys basketball champions Upper Hill registered their second victory at the ongoing Brookside East Africa Secondary School games in Eldoret.

The Kenyan boys were in a class of their own beating Uganda’s Kibuli 62-43 to book their semi-finals slot. The 2013 regional winners determined to reclaim their gong began their campaign with a 60-30 victory over Kapenguria.

Upper Hill were in a class of their own taking the first quarter 23-7. The second quarter was tightly contested as the Ugandans battled to snatch it 11-9. Kibuli gained confidence to grab the third 13-7. Nonetheless the Kenyan boys were not ready to break the hearts of their fans as they fought to take the victory with a 23-12 win in the fourth quarter.

Upper Hill coach Ronald Omangi said that his boys will correct aspects of the play that were not top notch to ensure that they accomplish their purpose.

“We learn from both the positives and the negatives in every match we play. We are going to improve on our strong points and work on our weakness as we get ready for our last group match and the semis.”

However, Kapenguria were twice unlucky as they fell 85-96 to PS Baptiste to bow out of title contention.

In the girls challenge St. Mary’s Kitende walloped Buruburu 66-48 to inch closer to the semis.

In volleyball the Kenyan girls were on a winning spree as Lugulu and AIC Kosirai all won in straight sets.

Lugulu beat Trust High of Uganda in sets of 25-13, 26-24 and 25-8. National winners Kosirai bounced back from their disappointing 3-2 loss to Soweto Academy in their opener to humble Rwanda champions St. Aloys 25-15, 25-23 and 25-23.

Rookies Soweto christened The Mighty Minnows proved their might by sealing their semis slot with their second 3-1 in sets of 25-8, 8-25, 25-11 and 26-24.
