Ulinzi Stars and Thika United failed to win at home in midweek Kenyan Premier League (KPL) matches played yesterday.

The soldiers were held to a barren draw by visiting Posta Rangers at Afraha Stadium while Bandari came from a goal down to grab a point in a 1-1 tie against Thika United at Thika Stadium.

At Afraha Stadium, the soldiers looked fatigued coming into the match just after the concluded regional military games in Rwanda which they won and seems to have taken a toll on them.

Posta also seem to have given their all after winning the football title during the Kenya Communications Sports Organisation (KECOSO) games held in Nakuru last week and did not have the strength to pull a win in a match that was marked by missed chances especially in the first half.

Rangers only golden opportunity was on the 25th minute when Duncan Otieno’s obvious attempt to shoot past well beaten Ulinzi custodian James Saruni was blocked by defender Hassan ‘Rio’ Hassan.

Ulinzi fought back but their efforts were thwarted by their Ranger’s defence led by Jockins Atudo.

The two teams resorted to aerial balls, which resulted into some rough play forcing match referee to flash a number of yellow cards to both sides.

Ulinzi Stars deputy coach Benjamin Nyangweso attributed their performance to a number of injuries on their top players who include strikers Erick Apul and John Makwata and midfielder Churchill Muloma.

“Their absence cost us the two points but we are determined to make a comeback in our next matches,” Nyangweso said.

At Thika Stadium, a nine man Thika United were held to a 1-1 tie by visiting Bandari. The home team went ahead when Joel Tata sent home Eugine Mukangula’s effort.

However, Mukangula did not finish the match as he was sent off with five minutes to go and his absence allowed Bandari to rally back into the match as they equalized in the 90th minute through Antony Kimani.
