Vihiga United coach Edward Manoah has said his team will build on the 2-0 win against KCB to disappoint more big names in National Super League competitions.

KCB, relegated from the Kenyan Premier League last season, were no match for Vihiga during the second-tier season opener at Mumias Sports Complex.

“We are not going to give any of our big opponents respect by fearing them. By July, you’ll see big teams coming here to recruit some of these players in our team because I have some of the finest untapped talent,” Manoah said after the resounding victory.

He added: “Most of these players have not played on such a stage. But we will be focused even after beating KCB.”

However, KCB coach Leonard Saleh blamed lack of commitment from his players in their defeat to Vihiga United in their first outing of the season.

Saleh said his players were still suffering from superiority complex and that is why they undermined a Vihiga side that finished top of National Super League Zone B last season.

“Our team was beaten because of its mental strength. We are still thinking that we are in the Kenya Premier League. I expected a tough challenge and have seen this team (Vihiga United) is not to be undermined,” Saleh said.

He added, “I will give them some psychological lessons and by the time we are going to play again, there will be some change.”

After a nervous start, Vihiga were put in front in the 13th minute after Vincent Odongo was fouled in the box and referee pointed at the spot. Patrick Okulo beat KCB’s goalkeeper Zachariah Onyango.

Michael Isabwa got the second in the second half after good interplay with Ramadhan Mwajao and captain George Odiwuor to give Vihiga United a huge boost in their debut in National League.
