KENYA: Former champions Kenya Harlequin succumbed to their first loss of the season when they went down 30-27 to hosts Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) at the Ruaraka grounds yesterday evening.

Quins head coach Enos Otieno claimed they did not play well and could have done better.

“In the first half, we basically defended the whole period and by the time we got our rhythm in the second half, we weren’t able to keep the tempo high,” he said.

Quins were trailing 15-0 by half time but were able to fight back to take a commanding 28-15 lead over the hosts in the beginning of the second half, before they were eventually overtaken by the bankers.

KCB coach Curtis Olago claimed the victory showed how much character his team had, but also exposed some vulnerabilities of the side.

“We have to go back to the drawing board and find out why we are not playing the whole game at the intensity we want,” he said.

“In this game, we started strongly but in the middle, we let go and were almost punished for it,” he added.

Olago feels they may consider looking at their fitness levels or adjusting their game plan so that they may be able to be more consistent in all their games.

Nakuru RFC are bracing for a huge fixture in the Kenya Cup as they host Impala at the Nakuru Athletics today.

Speaking to FeverPitch before the fixture Nakuru Coach Dominique Habimana claimed they expect their toughest fixture yet in the league but was quick to clarify that they are ready for the challenge.

“Yes we have been playing teams that finished in the bottom half of the league last season, but that doesn’t mean that we will be surprised by Impala,” he said.

“We played the Ugandan league champions Heathens before the season started and we won, so we know what it takes to play a big team and we are confident that we will emerge victorious,” he added.

Impala on the other end are travelling to Nakuru injury plagued. According to Impala captain Duncan Ekasi, they will be missing the services of Dennis Karani, Joel Omer and himself amongst other players who have been ruled out with injury.

Ekasi feels they will not be at full strength against the defending champions and they will have to dig deep to emerge victorious.
