Competitors have their sleeves rolled up ahead of the sixth round of the National Autocross Championship, which will be staged on Sunday at the demanding Jamhuri Park track with racing starting at 9.30 a.m.

After a four week lull, top drivers inlcuding Baldev Chager, Tejas Hirani, Anish Chouhan, Amit Bhatt and Amit Pandya are itching to renew their close fought rivalry as the season heads into crucial territory, where the winners are likely to be determined.

The big question though, is if the track will be wet or dry.

Most drivers are accustomed to dicing in the dust as the tyre grip plays out, but the rainy season is here, which opens up a new dimension on the battle front. It means competitors who have mastered muddy conditions are likely to upset the status quo.

Rage Buggy driver Tejas Hirani has a strong lead in the Two-Wheel-Drive, Non- Turbo Class with a 13-point advantage over Sachin Choda and Gurmeet Mehta who have scored 65 points.

Also entering a Rage Buggy in the Two-Wheel-Drive Non-Turbo is Kisumu based Dilraj Chatthe, who participated in the Rally Sports Club (RSC) event in Juja a month ago.

The Two-Wheel-Drive, Turbo Class is a hard fought battle between buggy drivers Amit Pandya and Amit Bhatt, who are separated by just 2 points.

Baldev Chager is the star rider in the Open Class and is set to take the title for this category. The determination of drivers contesting the 4WD Turbo Classes always produces close action.

Anish Chouhan and Asad Khan “Kalulu” are the drivers to watch both out to claim the championship.
