Shufti can reap Kenya Oaks Classic

By THE SQUIRREL

Shufti has handled this Classic 2,400 metres by a short defeat from Westonian during last month’s Derby. Ridden that day by South Africa’s, Neo Quayle, Shufti now has a new partner with Julie McCann in the Kenya Oaks.

Not keen to oppose this stunning filly, except with a possible nudging from Wonnitestand (Lesley Sercombe), and Fulfield (Jacob Lokorian), filling minor berths. Jacob, incidentally, became a new ree-lance trainer, submitting his debut runner, Orlando Furioso, in the Molo Maiden.

The Nakuru Race Club Cup has Irish Garden written all over it. Irish Garden ran sixth in the Derby but was slightly below par due to not enough work from Naivasha deluges.

Chamonix should also be in the money, but will not receive any moral support from previous owner, Millicent Morson, who just passed away at the grand age of 97. Millicent has been part of our horse racing scene for ever. Of her three children, only Trish is an avid enthusiast, and she will maintain the Secret Joy Syndicate with Chamonix.

Fancy seeing Steve Njuguna returning to his niche in the Spencer Tryon Challenge Handicap. Steve does not realistically have any chance on Hoplyte carrying 70 kgs, but, it will be fun for spectators observing their old favourite jockey. Parting Shot (Lesley Sercombe), is the one to blast, but not quite a piece of cake, as Mkora (James Muhindi), has all the credentials to be involved in any blanket finishes.
