Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) teams have been granted the rights to vote during national elections.

The rules of the game will also be harmonised tomorrow a head of the league kick off on Saturday.

Stakeholders in the sport were requested to forward their suggestions concerning the amendment of the constitution, expected to be completed in October, KBF chairman Paul Otula announced yesterday.

Speaking at the Kenya National Sports Council (KNSC) Boardroom in Coca-Cola Stadium, Otula suggested he seeks to establish an all-inclusive management team.

The commencement of the KBF league has been delayed for a month after clubs declined to play until they are given voting rights at the national level.

Previously, clubs only voted at the sub-branches, which they claimed alienated them from the national office. Team managers also insisted on the amendment of the constitution to ease the federation’s operations, a fact KBF said would take a long period of time to accomplish.

Discontented teams then decided to start a parallel league at Hope Centre, Kawangware. The effects of the rift between KBF and clubs was evident last weekend when they skived a Labor Day tournament at Menengai School, Nakuru, only to participate in another event at Hope Centre.

Otula said KBF had decided to establish an all-inclusive league because they wanted to give basketball lovers a chance to play the game.

KNSC chairman Joshua Okuthe, who attended the function, hailed Otula for making worthy decision which he said would help put KBF house in order.

"I suggest that you harmonise your constitution to be in line with the new sports policy," said Okuthe.

Other KBF officials present at the meeting were fixtures secretary, Joseph Amoko, KBF first vice-chairman Chris Kinyua and treasurer Peter Orero among others. Fixtures for the league would be availed tomorrow. Clubs were conspicuously missing from the press conference.
