Kenya national Sevens rugby team, Shujaa, collected 10 points after a slow start to the 2021-2022 World Sevens Series that kicked off with the Dubai Sevens first leg over the weekend.
Shujaa had a poor start to the new season managing only an eighth-place finish.
Kenya lost twice; against Argentina and USA, before defeating Spain in their Group B encounters during the opening day on Friday.
They scrapped through to the knockout stage courtesy of best-loser position and played Fiji in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
Fiji knocked Kenya out after a 19-5 comeback win which relegated Innocent Simiyu’s charges to rankings matches for positions five to eight where they met Great Britain, who once again thrashed them 33-5.
The defeat relegated Shujaa further to the position seven and eight classification match, which again, did not go their way after losing 29-7 to Ireland. Shujaa ended the tournament with just one win out of the six matches played.
After the first round of the 2022 World 7s Series tournaments- Dubai 7s, 2021 Champions South Africa are top of the Standings.
