Kenya Sevens team Shujaa started the second day of the Rugby Africa Solidarity Sevens tournament on a high note after thrashing Stellenbosch Academy of Sport 26-0 in a one-sided match played at Markötter Stadium in Stellenbosch.
Jeffrey Oluoch, Alvin Otieno, Derrick Keyoga and Vincent Onyala’s tries were enough to hand Kenya their third win at the tourney used as part of the Tokyo Olympics Preparations.
The South Africans were first to pressure Kenya off the kick-off whistle but it was the East African who drew the first blood through Oluoch’s pair of wheels.
Oluoch, commonly known for the Kenya Sevens dance choreography, landed Kenya’s first try between the post to lead 7-0 at the breather.
In the final half, Shujaa took a 12-0 lead after Collins Injera offload to Alvin Otieno saw the beast dummy his way to score at the left corner of the whitewash line.
A kick and chase after by Derrick Keyoga saw the Menengai Oilers star pounce on his own kick to ground the ball to extend the lead to 19-0 after conversion.
KCB’s Vincent Onyala sealed the victory with a last-minute try after the hooter.
Kenya will face Uganda next in the East Africa Derby at 12:50 pm East African Time.
