Menengai Oilers are keen on retaining on loan Nakuru RFC kicker Geoffrey Ominde whose contract expires in December.
Oilers acquired the international kicker mid last season from Nakuru RFC. Head coach Gibson Weru said they are interested in retaining Ominde who turns up for national 15s side, Simbas.
He said the Nakuru RFC international who is on a six month loan with them, has been a pillar in the team that has qualified for Kenya Cup League play offs.
Oilers are scheduled to face Homeboyz in their Kenya Cup League play offs at Jamhuri Park in Nairobi at a date to be announced by Kenya Rugby Union after it was suspended due to coronavirus pandemic.
"We still need his services and we will retain him once his contract expires. His contribution towards our performance in the local league and other assignments has been commendable," Weru, who once played for national sevens team, said.
Last week, Ominde said he has a running contract with Menengai Oilers but pointed out that he will make a final decision once the contract expires.
"It has been good playing for the two clubs. I will decide once the contract expires," he said.
Yesterday, Weru said it might not be possible to play their quarterfinal play-off match against Homeboyz.
"The season is almost over and as things stand in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic, chances are high that we might not play this match. However, it is up to the union to make a final decision," he said.
