KCB beat Quins to secure finals spot with Kabras

Kenya Sevens forward Andrew Amonde and Isaac Njoroge scored two tries each as KCB remained on course for a third successive Kenya Cup title with a 46-13 semi-final win over Kenya Harlequin at KCB Sports Club yesterday.

The bankers will battle for honours with Kabras Sugar next weekend after the sugar millers saw off Mwamba 23-11 in another semi-final tie in Kakamega.

In their win over Quins, KCB scored six tries, two penalties and five conversions while the visitors managed two unconverted tries and a solitary penalty.

Clear cut chances were few in the early exchanges and it was the burly Amonde who would deliver the first try of the match, going over the chalk to give KCB a 5-0 lead with an unconverted try.

KCB, who had made two changes in their starting line up, continued to enjoy possession and they stretched their lead after Ken Moseti and Peter Kilonzo combined to tee up Isaac Njoroge for their second try.

Jacob Ojee added the extras as Curtis Olago's men held a 12-0 advantage over the side which last beat them in January 2016.

Quins then forced KCB into an infringement and from the ensuing penalty, Eric Shikuku split the posts to reduce the deficit.

Kenya U-20 scrum-half Samuel Asati would then set up Amonde for his brace as Ojee converted to send KCB 19-3 up at halftime.

Upon resumption, Ojee scored a penalty to extend his side's lead before loose forward Peter Misango scored Quins' first try.

Peter Karia got himself onto the scoresheet, diving over from a maul before Ojee struck again with his boot to give KCB a 32-8 cushion. 

Eden Agero responded with an unconverted try for Quins before Ojee converted Isaac Njoroge and Griffin Musila's tries to seal KCB win.

At the Kakamega Showground, Kabras Sugar led 14-8 at the break through converted tries by winger Felix Ayange and South African import Mario Wilson while Daniel Taabu scored a five pointer for Kulabu. 

Philip Wokorach, who is currently on top of the Kenya Cup scorers chart, extended the sugar millers lead with a three-pointer before the sides traded penalties to see Kabras lead 20-11.

Meanwhile, Western Bulls were promoted to the Kenya Cup after beating their hosts USIU 22-16 in a KRU Championship semi-final. 

The Kakamega based side makes a return to the top flight after two seasons following their relegation during the 2016-17 campaign. 

Kisumu RFC were also promoted to the Kenya Cup with a 14-11 win over Catholic Monks in a dramatic semi-final which had to be decided in sudden death after the sides were level 11-11 after regulation time.
