After failing to win the national rugby Sevens circuit, Menengai Cream Homeboyz head coach Paul Murunga was a man on a mission.

When his side failed to win the title with a two-point deficit, Murunga vowed to bring a new ballgame this season.

He said he was determined to bag maximum points in opening legs and maintain the form as the series enters homestretch.

He had walked down that road before and was not ready for a repeat of the heartache he suffered.

“Last season, we missed it by a whisker but this time, we’ll apply a different tactic for us to amass as many points as possible. We need to win this early enough,” Murunga said after winning the Prinsloo Sevens title at Nakuru Athletic Club on July 22.

And by clinching the Sepetuka Sevens title, race in the remaining legs is theirs to lose, going by their current form.

The remaining contests are in Kabeberi Sevens in Machakos from August 18-19, Driftwood Sevens in Mombasa from August 25-26, Dala Sevens in Kisumu from September 8-9 and Christie Sevens in Nairobi from September 15-16.

Murunga insists that consistency in the remaining tournaments will see them through to their cherished ambition.

On their way to winning the Sepetuka title, Homeboyz defeated Mwamba 25-0 to lead the circuit with 44 points.

Mwamba, with 38 points, are second, Kenya Commercial Bank third with 32, Resolution Impala Saracens fourth (27) and Kabras Sugar fifth (23).

Top Fry Nakuru RFCa are sixth with 22, Nondescripts seventh (20), Menengai Oilers eighth (18), Kenya Harlequins ninth (16) and Mean Machine 10th with 13 points. [Ben Ahenda]
