Jerome Paarwater part ways with Kenya Simbas

Jerome Paarwater’s five-year tenure as national 15s rugby team, Simbas, head coach has come to an abrupt end.

It is not yet clear what could have led to the South African’s dismissal barely six months before the start of the 2019 World Cup qualifiers.

In a statement, Kenya Rugby Union thanked Paarwater for his 'significant contribution' to the growth of the game in the country, the Simbas coaching, and management of the team.

“Jerome has been a key influence for the Simbas, guiding the team up the world rankings and making the team a formidable force on the continental stage,” read the statement.

Paarwater’s replacement will be announced later.

Separately, Nakuru powerful loose-forward Oscar Ouma and Menengai Oilers duo of Samuel Muregi and Erick Ombasa are expected to link up with the Kenya Sevens team today ahead of this weekend’s second leg of the 2017-2018 HSBC Sevens World Series in Cape Town, South Africa.

The trio comes in as replacement for injured Dennis Ombachi (ankle) and Collins Injera (hamstring), who picked up injuries on day one of the season opening Dubai Sevens.

Shujaa finished seventh overall with 10 points after losing 19-12 to Australia in the fifth-place semifinal match.

The availability of Ouma, who reportedly missed the Dubai Sevens due to visa hitches, is a big boost for coach Innocent Simiyu as he prepares to hand the series debut to the youthful Muregi and Ombasa.

Kenya have been drawn in Group A alongside hosts and tournament’s champions South Africa, France, and Russia.

Elsewhere, the new coach of Japan's Sunwolves Super Rugby side said he was targeting a top-five finish next season, despite the fact that the team has been on the wrong end of multiple hidings in recent years.

New Zealander Jamie Joseph, who also coaches Japan's national team, said fans could expect a "much stronger team than we've had in the past two seasons" as he unveiled a new squad.

Among a dozen new faces presented were South African-born flanker Wimpie van der Walt and Jaba Bregvadze, a Georgian hooker who has played top-flight rugby in England and France.
