Injera: Man whose appetite for tries is insatiable

Collins Injera is one of the best wingers in the World Rugby Sevens Series at the moment. And for the 29-year-old, the Singapore Sevens will forever remain a memorable leg in his career. His opponents fear him, but the media and fans adore the Shujaa vice-captain thanks to his pace, sudden changes of direction, strength and uncanny ability to offload.
When the Mwamba star, a father of two, made his World Rugby Sevens debut in 2007 in the Adelaide leg, nobody thought that he would one day either win a Main Cup or challenge for the World’s all-time, top-try-scorer’s gong.
Of all the stunning things that we have seen him do through the years, including the infamous camera incident where he ruined a lens worth a reported £60,000 while celebrating his 200th international sevens try at last season’s London Sevens, Injera has achieved another significant milestone in his career, winning the Singapore Main Cup and the final player award.
And with two legs remaining before the end of the 2015-16 season, the Vihiga High alumnus seems to have already realised one of his dreams after inspiring Shujaa to a historic 30-7 victory over defending champions Fiji. He produced a master class performance scoring a brace to help Kenya win its first ever World Sevens Rugby Series Cup title. Having taken his try tally to 225, Injera is now six tries away from beating the current all-time, top- try-scorer, Argentina coach Santiago Gomez Cora.
