Players, fans to light up Impala Floodlit 32th edition

It’s all systems go for the 32nd edition of the Impala Floodlit Rugby Tournament after the oldest floodlit rugby competition was officially launched on Tuesday at its traditional venue, the Impala Club on Ngong Road.

The three weekend tournament involving schools, varsities and club categories kicks-off on Saturday October 12 at Impala with the quarter-finals, followed by the semis on 19 and then the grand finale on 26.

This year’s tournament received a shot in the arm with Standard Group’s biweekly sports newspaper, Game Yetu joining a prestigious list of the tourney’s sponsors as the official media partner.

Speaking during the launch, Impala Rugby Chairman, Jeff Gangla said preparations are in top gear for the event saying, “This tournament is a curtain-raiser for the Kenya Cup. “We thank Standard Group through their product Game Yetu for coming on board as the official media partners.”

“The sport is moving to a new level and we are looking forward to a highly successful tournament.

The doors are still open for other sponsors as long as they are not direct competitors for those who are already on board.”

Apart from Game Yetu, other sponsors on board include Resolution Insurance, Capital FM, KK Security, Doshi Industries and SAB Millers.

Standard Group Marketing Manager, Nancy Wangui, was similarly happy with the sponsorship deal and urged rugby lovers to show up in large numbers.

“It’s a great pleasure to be here as official media partners. Standard Group as a company would like to reassure all Kenyans of its commitment to support sports. We will use our entire media platform to cover the Impala Floodlit Tournament.”

Speaking at the same function, Marketing Manager Resolution Insurance, Eunice Nyakundi said: “Resolution has been in partnership with Impala for over six-years now and we are looking forward to a successful tournament.”

Kenya Rugby Union’s Director Fixtures and Competition Chiro Nyinge assured the organisers of their continued support.

Main Cup winners will receive Sh200,000 with winners in the university category pocketing Sh60,000. The Most Valuable Player will get Sh10,000.

Tickets will retail at Sh300 for adults and Sh100 for students in school uniforms with adults paying an extra Sh100 during the finals.
