Police arrest three linked to fake idS certificates in Eldoret

A raid by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers on Saturday netted fake academic documents, police clearance certificates, Identity Cards among others at business premises in Eldoret town.

During the raid, three suspects believed to be part of a wider syndicate of fraudsters, defrauding unsuspecting members of the public within Eldoret town and its environs were arrested.

George Kiplagat, Alex Kibet and Washington Omondi were found printing and issuing fake documents to unsuspecting members of the public.

“Detectives have arrested three suspects who were found printing fake Police Clearance Certificates, Identity Cards, academic documents, among other documents in Eldoret town,” said DCI.

DCI has cautioned members of the public against obtaining crucial documents such as good conducts from unverified sources, adding that only DCI is mandated to issue the certs.

Detectives warned that thou found in possession of any fake document will be arrested and prosecuted as per law.

“DCI is the only institution mandated to issue Police Clearance Certificates and as such, any other clearance certificates issued from elsewhere are not only null and void but could also land the bearer in trouble.”

There has been a rush by members of the public mainly the youth applying for the recently announced job opportunities by the National Police Service and Department of Defence with IDs, academic papers and certificate of good conduct being some of the many requirements.
