Man jailed for 20 years for defiling six-year-old daughter

An Eldoret Court has sentenced a man to 20 years in jail after finding him guilty of defiling his six-year-old daughter.

The 45-year-old man had appeared before Chief Magistrate Charles Obulutsa charged with two counts of defiling his daughter and committing an incident with a minor. He was said to have committed the crime after his wife left him.

According to the particulars of the charge, the accused defiled his daughter on the night of August 15, 2015 at Tamboiyot village in Soy sub-county.

His neighbour Ester Chebet told court the girl went to her house on August 16, 2015 and described what the accused did to her. The girl was taken to Ziwa Hospital where a clinical officer confirmed she had been defiled.

In his defense, the accused denied defiling the girl, and claimed he had been framed. He linked the case to his former wife, who he said had eloped with his employer.

But the magistrate ruled that the medical report confirmed that the girl had been defiled and that she had no reason to implicate her biological father. He sentenced the man to 20 years' imprisonment considering the time he had stayed in remand.

The man has 14 days to appeal.
