Tarquin Gross scored a golden goal to hand Energy Source a resounding 6-5 victory over Cruise Control and a semi-final berth in the Mugs Mug polo tournament.

Braving the chilly afternoon conditions on the elegant Jamhuri Park’s Nairobi Polo Club pitch, both teams were deadlocked 5-5 in regulation time and an extra 30 seconds failed to break the tie thus stretching this pulsating quarter-final into an extra chukka. The deciding chukka was an eventful one if not fascinating. Indeed, both teams missed a penalty each. And at the end of it all, they conceded it was a cracker of a match which would have gone either way.

Kigen Moi of Cruise Control attributed the loss to lack of concentration especially in the fourth chukka and staunchly admitted they had victory within sight.

The Gross siblings led by their father Anthony made a remarkable recovery coming from 5-2 goals to level the terms 5-5 and went ahead to win the match.

Tarquin was the man of the match scoring four goals with Tiva contributing two for Energy Source. Philippe Salle and Kigen scored two goals apiece with Vishal Somia pushing in one for Cruise Control team that also featured handicap 0.5 Gideon Moi.

Dasani were playing Custard Chukkers with Red Hot taking on Red Devils in the other quarter-final matches by press time yesterday. Off Beat edged out Auld Reeki Relics 5.5-4 in another quarter-final clash to set a semi-final date with Energy Source.
