Kenyan Premier League (KPL) runners up Gor Mahia has sent Ghana’s Black Stars back to the drawing board after they upset the visitors with a 2-1 win on Sunday weekend.

Coach Nurudeen Amadu admitted Gor controlled the friendly match in each half and exposed Ghana’s weaknesses at Nyayo National Stadium.

The case of David versus Goliath match seems to have left Amadu a worried man especially with the forthcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN) competition around the corner.

"I have realised we have to improve our game if we are beat hosts Sudan in our first CHAN match. I Gor for exposing our weaknesses that we need to cover up before we go for the continental event," said coach Amadu.

Ghana’s side that is composed of locally assembled players, in respect to CHAN rules, leaves Kenya today for Sudan where the competition will be held from February 4 to 24.

Amadu insists Ghana has to reach the finals and failure to do so will be "criminal."

"It will be detrimental to the team as well as to the technical bench. We are even not sure what people will say back home should they know we lost to a Kenyan Premier League side," he explained.

Gor’s and Harambee Stars head coach Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno was not surprised by his club’s victory over Black Stars.

"We have been taking our training sessions seriously ahead of the KPL 2011 season. So contesting against Ghana was a worthy affair and we knew we had the chance of winning owing to our current form," said Otieno.

Otieno used the well-attended friendly match to gauge his new signings that included Moses Odhiambo, signed from Rwanda’s APR.

Ezekiel Odera, who was prised away from KCB proved he could fit into the shoes of George ‘Blackberry’ Odhiambo, who left Gor to ply his trade at Randers FC in Denmark last month, by netting a brilliant header in the 30th minute which left Gor’s fans.

Collins Okoth’s free-kick, which hit the top bar before squeezing into the net, was the seal of the deal for Gor’s victory after it left Ghana’s goalkeeper, Sammy Adjei, clutching into thin air.

Other players tested were, Collins Omondi from Mahakama, DennisOkoth (City Stars) Livatsi Edwin and Boban Fredricks from Uganda, who responded well in the friendly.

Otieno has gauged his player’s fitness to be at 70 per cent and will top up the remaining 30 at a ten-day training camp in Oloitoktok beginning this week.

Meanwhile Congo United have lined up a friendly with Gor Mahia this weekend as the newly promoted Mombasa-based KPL side prepares for the new season.

According to Congo United Arif Baghazal, the newcomers are keen to fine tune the preparations with one of the top teams.
