Gor Mahia coach Zedekiah Otieno will continue with his responsibility as the national team head tactician.

The coach, who recently led Harambee Stars to fourth place in the Nile Basin tournament held in Cairo, has been asked to continue in the position after an improved performance.

Otieno had been picked as a stand in coach specifically for the two-week tournament after former tactician Jacob Mulee resigned in the wake of poor performance during the regional Senior Challenge Cup.

Harambee Stars Management Board chairman Evans Kidero revealed on Saturday they want to maintain continuity in the team hence the extension of Otieno’s tenure.

The coach will be torn between his club and the national team, which has a loaded calendar this year with the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers resuming in March.

Kidero also announced they are working on inviting a top African country to play Stars during the February 9, Fifa week day.

"We have instructed the coach to take a team to camp at the end of this month so that they are ready to play on the Fifa day," he said.

Kidero said several African countries have been approached and the Board is waiting for a response from them.

Earlier, Football Kenya had announced that Stars are scheduled to tour the United States of America next month, but the board chairman hinted that this may not be possible.

Kit sponsors

"Right now we are focusing on getting matches that add value to the team," he said when asked about the trip.

Kidero was addressing the media after meeting Harambee Stars players and members of the technical bench.

He said the interaction was fruitful and helped understand problems affecting the team.

He announced that they are working on getting the team kit sponsors as well as addressing other pertinent issues like the payment of allowances on time.

Meanwhile, the Sh4.8 million won by the team during the Nile Basin tournament in Cairo will be divided among the players equally.
