Rwanda name two juniors in Chan squad

Rwanda has named to players from their World Cup-bound Under-17 side in the team to prepare for the African Nations Championship (Chan) in Sudan from February 4.

Ghanaian born tactician Sellas Tetteh has shown faith in captain Emery Bayisenge and defender Faustin Usengimana, both who have impressed in the ongoing Africa Under-17 Championship here.

Rwanda has qualified for the Under-17 World Cup to be held in Mexico in June alongside Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire and Congo Brazzaville. The continental tournament in Rwanda has reached the semi final stage. Burkina Faso were to play Congo yesterday. Rwanda take on Cote d’Ivoire today. Both matches will be at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali.

While naming the senior Amavubi side, Tetteh said the two players would be expected in camp by January 24th to give them time to play in the African event.

Also named in the side that will train exclusively at home are nine players from regional champions APR who will join the camp at the end of this month as they will be engaged with their club for the African Champions League against Club Africaine of Tunisia on January 29th.

The players from APR are Jean Luc Ndayishimiye, Ismail Nshutiyamagara, Eric Gasana, Donatien Tuyizere, Albert Ngabo, Jean Baptiste Mugiraneza, Haruna Niyonzima, Jean Claude Iranzi, and Emmanuel Sebanani. Two other APR players Kipson Atuheire and Didier Kapet are expected in camp early as they are not lined up for the Tunisian assignment. The rest of the players started camp Monday.
