The Kenyan Premier League (KPL) battle for glory and escape from relegation intensifies tomorrow with two of the league’s strugglers, Bandari and Red Berets, expected to put forward a strong case for their survival in Nakuru.

On a weekend SuperSport on DStv will broadcast live four matches, two in Nakuru’s Afraha Stadium tomorrow and the same number from Nyayo National Stadium, Nairobi, stakes are high.

Multi Choice Kenya public relations manager, Stella Ondimu, said: "As promised with the arrival of the OB van, this is an exciting time in the KPL as SuperSport seeks to take football to a lot of people outside Nairobi. Nakuru fans should come to Afraha Stadium to cheer their teams. By beaming live from Nakuru, is one way of taking football out of Nairobi."

Berets host Sony Sugar from 1pm and later at 3pm military men Ulinzi Stars battle cargo handlers Bandari in a game Yusuf Chippo’s men must win to harbour hopes of surviving the axe.

Berets, who have seen a change of coaching staff three times since the start of the season, cannot afford to lose as they seek to steer away from the guillotine.

Resurgent leopards

The long-serving coach Mwangi Kiragu was relieved of coaching duties just before the league kicked off and in his place Gideon Ambani but his reign did not improve matters. Veteran captain Caleb Okuku was thrown into the fray as player-coach and a lot is expected of him, especially after a resurgent AFC Leopards overtook them by two points going into the international break.

His former coach Kiragu has backed Okuku to take the fight to their opponents but fears they he may have come a little too late in the Berets’ dugout.

"In three matches, he has won two (2-1 against Bandari and Sher) and lost one (3-1 against Gor Mahia). He is doing well but the going will be tough in these last stages," Kiragu said.

And with SuperSport, the official sponsor of the KPL setting the stage for a showdown in front of a continental audience through live broadcast, Berets and Bandari would relish spilling the blood of Sony and Ulinzi Stars who by all accounts should be safe from the hangman’s noose.
