Jordan Henderson has called an emergency meeting with all of the Premier League captains to discuss the European Super League.
The animosity between the clubs is growing as six top-flight outfits look to join the breakaway competition.
And the Liverpool skipper, who is a trusted figure in the football community will help coordinate in the meeting which will take place on Zoom on Wednesday.
The 30-year-old was approached by a couple of Premier League rivals about staging a discussion amid growing concerns over the ESL.
Henderson was a leading light during the pandemic last year as he helped the players response to the NHS crisis triggered by the coronavirus.
And again it looks as if the England international will be tasked with bringing players together amid the current divide.
Several players have come out and offered their opinion, albeit cryptically in some cases, on the controversial plans.
Marcus Rashford has tweeted a picture of the famous Sir Matt Busby quote at Old Trafford that says: "Football is nothing without fans".
