Pep Guardiola says he will consider Ederson as Manchester City's next penalty taker after Ilkay Gundogan's miss at Liverpool.

Gundogan stepped up to take the spot kick after Raheem Sterling was fouled by Fabinho late in the first half, but skied his effort over the bar.

The German made amends for his error by scoring twice in the second half as City surged to an emphatic 4-1 win which accelerates their march to the title.

But Guardiola is keen to address his side's weakness from 12 yards, as City have missed eight penalties in the Premier League since the start of last season, which is three more than any other side.

"A lot of emotions, many things happening in the game," Guardiola told BBC Sport as he gave his verdict on his side's performance.

"Gundogan missed a penalty, it's like a routine against them, but we started really really well, doing what we want to do.

"In the second half, the way we react to the goal, the way we played with quality made the difference.

"We knew that we should continue with what we have done the last month or two months, and that's what we did well.

"For many years we were not able to win here, hopefully next time we can do it with people. Anfield is so intimidating."

Turning his attention to the penalty miss, Guardiola added: "It's a problem that we have. In important moments, we cannot miss it, and it doesn't matter the taker.

"Again, I'm going to think about Ederson, he might be the taker next time."

Ederson has previously claimed to be the best penalty taker at the Etihad due to his time practicing them at his former club Ribeirao.

"I don't train much free kicks," said the Brazil international in November. "I trained penalties and when I played for Ribeirao I took some free kicks but that is in the past now.

"I am the best penalty taker but I am not chosen to take them!"
