Arsenal are on the brink of facing Portsmouth in the FA Cup just days after their shocking loss to Olympiacos on Thursday in the Europa League knockout match at the Emirates Stadium.

The unbeaten streak of Arsenal's 2020 campaign couldn't be held as Mikel Arteta's men had a less-than-stellar performance.

Furthermore, the Gunner's problems keep mounting up as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is yet to sign a new contract at the club.

He has less than eighteen months remaining on his contract and the football world is keen on his decision which will have a prodigious impact on Arsenal's future.

It could be argued that Aubameyang has been the reason for the Gunner's success racking up goals and proving to be efficient when the team needs him to be.

But with the summer transfer coming up, here are three reasons why Arteta should be chomping at the bit to sell the Gabonese striker.

He's not getting any younger

Aubameyang signed for Arsenal on 31 January 2018 from Borussia Dortmund for a then club-record fee of about £56 million (Sh7 billion).

Since then, he has made 74 appearances with 49 goals and 10 assists. To cap it off, he's the defending golden boot winner and is tied for the same award this season.

Despite all this success, the fact is he is not getting any younger. The Arsenal superstar is now 31 years old and at the peak of his career.

From a creative standpoint, Aubameyang's presence on the pitch has a tremendous effect on his teammates thus proving him worthy of wearing the Captain's armband.

But with the Gunners heavily relying on him to produce results, how long can he keep on carrying the weight of the whole team on his back?

Moreover, will Arteta hold on to him on the hopes that he can get another good year or two out of him?

He is replaceable

If Arteta cashes in on Aubameyang's summer transfer, the club could feasibly expect an estimated £70 million.

With such a sum of money, Arsenal could potentially eye other prolific strikers who have the same capability as well as possess such charisma on the pitch.

Another option Arteta might opt is to take a page from Arsene Wenger's book.

The likes of Gabrielle Martinelli, Saka and Nketiah have proved, more than once, to rise to the occasion when it comes to big matches and Arteta should have no problem grooming the youngsters to fill Aubameyang's role.

Aubameyang is not Arsenal's main striker

This continues to be a discussion whenever Arsenal lineups are posted before a match.

Arguably one of the best strikers in world football, fans keep wondering why Aubameyang plays as a left-wing Forward.

During his time at Dortmund, he excelled as an efficient centre forward and became the Bundesliga top scorer during the 2016/2017 campaign.

Former Dortmund coach and current Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp acknowledged his former pupil as a good central striker.

"When we (Dortmund) suddenly needed a No 9 because Robert Lewandowski left us, we tried Auba and realised he is a really good central striker," Klopp explained.

But why doesn't he play as a striker? By the look of things, Arteta has no intention of changing Aubameyang's position to centre forward.

In my opinion, this is tantamount to clipping his wings hence the more reason for him not extending his contract.

Arsenal are currently 10th on the Premier League table with 37 points having played matches.

For a chance to secure a top-four finish in the most competitive league, the club's decisions have to be spot on.

Some might say Arteta's system won't work without Aubameyang but I say it will. Sell sell sell Aubameyang for his growth as well.
