Fatuma Mohamed has upset the ODM wave in Migori County to clinch the Woman Representative seat in the August 9, 2022 polls.

The businesswoman defeated Dennitah Ghati of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

Mohamed got 154,538 votes against Ghati's 117,597 in the eight Migori constituencies.

Others who Mohamed floored in the contest are Lilian Otieno (Jubilee) and independent candidates Zilpah Ochuodho, Josephine Sirega and Hellen Obado.

In the 2013 and 2017 general elections, Mohamed unsuccessfully ran for Migori Woman Representative seat.

Ghati of ODM served as the county's first woman rep between 2013 and 2017.

In the run-up to the August 8, 2017 polls, Ghati lost the ODM ticket to Pamela Odhiambo, who went ahead to become the county's second woman rep.

Ghati was, subsequently, nominated to the National Assembly to represent people living with disabilities.

Pamela Odhiambo attempted to defend her seat on ODM ticket this year, but lost to Ghati in the April 2022 party primaries.

In the gubernatorial race, Migori Senator Ochillo Ayacko will become the county's second governor after defeating John Pesa of Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K).

Ayacko got 175,226 votes against Pesa's 126,171 votes to become Okoth Obado's successor.

Former Rongo MP Dalmas Otieno of Jubilee Party came third with 21,164 votes.

Eddy Oketch of ODM will take over from Ochillo Ayacko as Migori Senator.

Oketch got 295,228 votes against Jubilee's Sophia Dhibira's 27,682. Independent candidate Billy Okumu came third with 14,725 votes, the IEBC announced on Friday, August 12.
