Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi has been tasked by the party to pick his running mate from Mt Kenya region.

This casts doubt on the future of the One Kenya Alliance (OKA colleagues – Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper), Gideon Moi (Kanu) and Moses Wetang’ula (Ford Kenya) stand in his equation.

The region has over six million votes hence the overtures to figures from the region. “We have a list of several contenders for the running mate post from Mt Kenya, including Governor Anne Waiguru. We are already negotiating with her,” said ANC deputy party leader Ayub Savula.

This comes a week after Mudavadi meet with Luhya MPs and professionals from Nairobi to rally support for his presidential bid in 2022.

Mudavadi has been making forays into Mt Kenya, meeting governors Francis Kimemia (Nyandarua), Lee Kinyanjui (Nakuru) and Mutahi Kahiga (Nyeri).

Yesterday, he met Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi and his deputy Titus Ntuchiu. Mudavadi said he was in the region to sell his political agenda.

“When I came here sometime back I was baptised (by Njuri elders) ‘Mukiri’. I intend to carry that name with dignity because it was given to me out of humility,” he said.

Mudavadi said every region deserves a fair share of the national revenue. “As we stand here, are the resources being allocated measure up to the population of Meru?” he posed.

He vowed to improve agriculture and rescue miraa farmers whose produce has been locked out of regional markets. “Those who were able to pay school fees, medical expenses and others, are now suffering. We want to see what can be done,” he said.

Kiraitu said those seeking the presidency will be given opportunity to talk to the people on what they stand for, and how they fit in protecting interests of Meru.
