Guinea national arrested at JKIA with Cocaine worth Sh11 million

A 45-year-old Guinea national was Thursday arrested at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) after being found with three kilos of cocaine valued at Sh11 million.

Abdoulaye Diallo was in transit from Qatar’s capital Doha to Cotonou in Benin through JKIA when the drugs he was carrying were discovered.

Airports CID boss Judy Jebet said the suspect will be arraigned in court Monday.

"He was intercepted on arrival at JKIA and had inserted the narcotics to his private parts. He will be in court Monday," said Ms Jebet.

The man was detected on Thursday morning and put on observation where he emitted the three kilos of the narcotics.

Cases of drug trafficking through JKIA have been on the rise with police making several arrests and seizures. Anti-narcotics police officers say most of the drugs being consumed in Nairobi originate from Tanzania through the Namanga border.

The traffickers have also been avoiding airports and opting for roads, which are poorly manned to traffic the drugs.

Most of the narcotics that are seized are cocaine and heroin.

Statistics show police at the airport seized drugs valued more than Sh50 million last year alone. Most of those arrested were passengers who were in transit.
