Ladies' team prevails at Ericksson Golf Day in Karen

An all lady-team of Wanjira Kireri, Muthoni Muturi, Louisa Gitau and Betty Gacheru overcame seasoned golfers to emerge the winners of the inaugural Ericsson Golf Day held at the Karen Country Club at the weekend.

The ladies posted an impressive team score of 44 Stable ford points, beating 138 other contestants in the day- long tournament.

Ericsson Africa CEO, Lars Linden said during the prize giving ceremony that he was not surprised by the results. "Golf is all about communication, something we at Ericsson are particularly good at and something that ladies are excellent at," Linden said. "I would like to congratulate the ladies and I do hope to see them at this same event next year, perhaps the men will have learnt something about communication by then."

The runner up team made up of Ericsson’s Byron Candel and Tim Chessari, Orange-Telkom’s John Conlan and Annette Martyres posted 39 team points.

Winner prize

Tom Indimuli won the Men winner prize after posting a score of 41 points, while Muthaiga’s Sam Mwangi was the men runner up on 39 points beating Njee Muturi on count-back.

Home player Wanjira Muturi emerged the Lady winner on 42 points. Ericsson’s Rod Van De Werken was the staff winner on 37 points, while the nines prizes went to Walter Onyino on 22 points and Charles on 21 points in the first and second nines respectively.

Longest drive

The longest drive lady was Louisa Gitau, while longest drive men was Ben Handa. Jonathan Ciano had the nearest to pin on the 14th hole. Ericsson’s Franklin Juma won the best effort prize.

Meanwhile, at Malindi Golf and Country Club, Peter Ngatia, playing off handicap 23, emerged the winner of the Captains 2011 trophy with a score of 36 stableford points on count back.

Handicap 18 Kate Mwimalli, who tied on the same points with Ngatia, settled for the runner-up position after losing on count back, while handicap eight Walter Okoth was third on 33 points.

Doar Moir, playing off handicap 17, posted the best first nine score as he amassed 22 points and handicap 19 Colwya Rees posted the best second nine score, playing 21 points.
