Miri's horse wins British Airways race

Lazrin, ridden by David Miri for owner Ray Warner and trainer Oliver Gray beat five other runners to win the British Airways Soprani Derby Trial during horse racing meeting at Ngong Racecourse.

Lazrin beat Skeleton Coast with Julie McCann in the saddle to the second place by one length and winning time of 2:10: 6/10 in the 2,060m race.

In the last outing Lazrin got beaten by Borodin and therefore the victory was good revenge for the winner. Borodin with Nicholas Kisulu atop came third in the Derby Trial that attracted six runners.

The fairy tale of veteran jockey Lesley Sercombe continued after she recorded four places including three straight wins in the meeting.

Sercombe’s first victory came in opening race of the day — Thales East Africa Handicap — which she won atop tote favourite Who’s Counting in a time of 1:27:6/10. It was joy for Kenya Jockey Club to See partners — G4S, Salama Fikira, Thales East Africa Ltd, East Africa Canvas, Shell, Standard Chartered and British Airways comE together as Friends of Britain to sponsor the meeting which attracted a huge crowd at Racecourse.

Inspired by the first win, Lesley was in the picture again winning her second trophy - the G4S Nakuru Race Club Cup- and this time ridding Tiffany Blue for owners Ansel, Jeffrey, Loite, Canaton and trainer Patsy Sercombe timed 1:53 in a marathon race ran over 1,800m.

Legend Maker lived up to the name after it turned Charles Mwangi into a winner in the final race of the day called Priority Banking Handicap that attracted a crowded field of nine runners.

Legend Maker won the Standard Chartered Bank-sponsored race clocking 1:42:4/10 to relegate S Kiplimo ridden Bettamint to the second place.
